Delete your Billvote account
This page is about the app Billvote, published by Escarcha Beheer B.V. — the same names as on our store listing. You can permanently delete your account yourself at any time, without asking us and without giving a reason. Below is how, what exactly disappears and what remains in anonymised form.
In the app, in three steps
- Open Billvote and go to your own profile, the tab at the bottom right.
- Tap Edit under your name and scroll all the way down in that screen, past Save and Sign out.
- Tap Delete account and confirm with your password. Your account is then gone immediately and irreversibly — there is no grace period and no recycle bin.
The same steps work in the web version at app.billvote.co.uk, also if you have removed the app from your device. You need not reinstall anything: signing in on that website is enough.
Cannot get in? Ask by e-mail
If you no longer know your password, or cannot sign in for another reason, we delete your account on request. E-mail info@billvote.co.uk from the e-mail address you registered with — that is how we know it is your account — and say that you want your account deleted. We do so within thirty days and let you know once it is done.
info@billvote.co.uk — write from the address you registered with.
What is deleted
Deleting your account removes everything that is tied to you as a person, immediately and from the database itself:
- your account details: e-mail address, password, username, name and bio;
- the profile details you filled in: date of birth, gender, education, occupation and party preference;
- your profile photo and cover photo, also at our media service;
- your posts, comments and polls, with the photos and videos attached to them;
- your likes, your votes in other people's polls and your answers to the statement of the day;
- your friendships, blocks, private conversations and every private message you sent;
- your notifications and notification settings, and the push tokens of your devices;
- your favourite bills and the MPs, peers and parties you followed;
- your weekly reviews and the reports you made to us.
What is kept, anonymised
One thing remains: the votes you cast yourself on bills and divisions. They are detached from your account — your user id is erased — and keep only four loose attributes: age group, gender, education and the party you had given. Nothing remains by which that vote can be traced back to you, and we cannot link it to a person again either.
We do this because a result would otherwise change retroactively. The results in Billvote show how age groups, education levels and party supporters thought about a bill; if every vote vanished as soon as someone left, last year's result would differ today from yesterday. Small groups are suppressed in that breakdown anyway, so a single vote never becomes visible.
What you wrote on behalf of a party page — a position on a bill, for example — also stays, without your name. That is content of the party and not yours personally. If you want it gone too, say so in your request and we remove it.
How long it takes
- Immediately. If you delete your account in the app, it happens at that moment. You are signed out straight away and your data is no longer in our database.
- Within thirty days. If you ask by e-mail, we handle it within thirty days, usually much sooner.
- Up to thirty days in backups. An encrypted backup of our database is made every night; we keep three daily and four weekly copies. Your data may therefore remain in such a copy for at most thirty days, after which it has expired too. Those copies are used only to restore the service after a failure.
- A few days in technical logs. Our server keeps ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time for security and debugging. They rotate out by themselves within a few days.
If you would rather have a copy of your data before you leave, or have a question about this page, e-mail info@billvote.co.uk. More about how we handle your data is in our privacy policy.
